Waxing for Females

When most people hear the word "waxing," they think of the bikini area. Actually, this method of hair removal can be used on just about any part of the body. Women may find it especially handy for banishing unwanted hair in the eyebrow, upper lip, chin, and leg regions. This is because waxing is a method of epilation, which means that it removes hair below the first layer of skin.

Chemical hair removers (like Nair) and shaving, on the other hand, are methods of depilation. In other words they remove hair at the skin's surface. Methods of epilation-such as electrolysis, tweezing, and waxing-cause hair to grow back much thinner and more slowly than those of depilation, which makes them ideal for use on the more sensitive areas of the body.

These days, most of the better salons out there offer waxing services. You may be tempted to try waxing yourself at home, but if you do, be warned that there's a reason why professional aestheticians exist. Waxing is a sticky, messy business in the wrong hands, and can easily go awry. Aestheticians are specially trained to work with wax and to create hair lines that are pleasing to the eye. Don't be embarrassed about making an appointment with an aesthetician. No matter what your condition, they've seen worse.

Before going in to see an aesthetician for a wax, it might be helpful to know what the procedure involves. First, the aesthetician will talk to you about the area or areas that you want waxed. Then she will heat up the wax, smooth it over the area that you want treated, and cover it with a strip of fabric (probably cotton). She will wait for the wax to cool and then rapidly rip the cloth and wax off, leaving your skin smooth and hairless. Any redness and swelling that you experience should subside in a couple of hours.

Do not attempt to get waxed if you have diabetes, varicose veins, a skin condition, or are using Retin-A, since these factors cause skin sensitivity.

In the event that you still want to do it yourself, you will need to learn about the different waxes and waxing kits for home use. More important, you will have to dig deep to find out what brands others already like. This is essential because not all of that's out there is quality, and you don't want to experiment and find out from your experience if something is not as good as advertised.

Good news. I've already done the digging for you. Click here to see what waxing kits I found women liked most.
